Upcoming Midterm Elections Facebook May Become Less of a Campaign Power Tool

In the last 3 months of 2017, the total amount of time spent on Facebook decreased by 5%. This decrease came before the recent announcement that Facebook would be changing its algorithm to fill your newsfeed with more content from friends and family.

The implications of this for Facebook business pages are that the algorithm will favor content that is engaging (has a lot of comments, likes and shares) over content that is repetitive. This alteration of the newsfeed could be to the detriment of content from sources like businesses and news outlets, so given this recent news, average time spent online is expected to decrease even more in the coming months.
